Master thesis: Investigations of Corrosion in High-Temperature Alloys for Furnace Components (m/f/x)
Our Profile
We are a renowned, internationally active institute in the field of energy technology. As a research and development company, we deal with both the resource-saving use of liquid energy sources and the minimization of global and local pollutant emissions during energy production and use. We work closely with partners from industry and research, particularly in the following areas:
• Combustibles, fuels and lubricants
• Fuel cell systems
• Reformers
• Combustion technology
• High temperature technology
• Energy storage
As part of the energy transition in Germany, the goal of sustainability for society is becoming increasingly important. This applies to increasing energy efficiency to reduce the use of primary energy. Industrial furnaces for energy intensive industries such as manufacturing of steel, non-ferrous metals, and glass, rely on strategies for maintaining the systems are developing from reactive and preventive measures to predictive, condition-based functional maintenance. Understanding how furnace components age by corrosion during thermal cycling, supports the furnace designers and operators in the design and operation phases.
This thesis work involves
• Evaluation of aging of high temperature alloys based on:
• Analysis of Cr and Al depletion with SEM and WDX analyses
• Modelling of corrosion effects, based on experimental results and material properties
• Analysis and evaluation of interactions between corrosion and creep effects
