Background and aim

Logistic & safe handling of renewable fuels in CHP applications (theoretical)

Renewable fuels are essential to the achievement of a climate neutral economy and society. To be applicable on short term the fuels must be tested for their compatibility of the current technologies, including the current fuel infrastructure.

In this study the logistic chain and handling practices of conventional fuels such as diesel and heating oil has to be defined. Subsequently, the compatibility of Fast Pyrolysis Bio Oil (FPBO), a promising fuel for application in Combined Heat and Power units (CHP), with the existing logistic steps and usual handling practices has to be evaluated. Finally, recommendations to overcome potential incompatibilities between the fuel and the logistic chain and handling practices have to be deduced.
